Job Description

Nevada State University actively maintains an open pool of qualified individuals to be selected on an as-needed basis by the department to fulfill part-time temporary instructional needs and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Nevada State University invites applications for an open pool of adjunct faculty for in-person courses. We are seeking experienced clinicians to teach undergraduate baccalaureate nursing students in clinical and skills lab settings, working beside full-time dedicated faculty in a highly collegial, interdisciplinary environment. Part-time openings are available in all specialties, including medical-surgical, pediatrics, maternity, intermediate care/critical care, community health, and mental health.

Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis determined by course availability.

Adjunct faculty members are compensated at the rate of $2,067 per credit for Theory courses and $3,000 per credit hour for Clinical and Skills Lab courses. Courses range from 1-4 credits.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Implements the school's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through clinical or lab teaching.
  • Assumes responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
  • Plans clinical experiences for and provides direct supervision and evaluation of nursing students delivering care to an individual or group of individuals.
  • Makes self-available to staff at the agencies.
  • Evaluates and provides documented feedback to student on level of performance based on course objectives.
  • Is available for remediation of students as required or needed.
  • Orients and maintains current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies, procedures, and expectations with assistance of Nevada State and agency staff.
  • Corrects and returns homework, quizzes, lab assignments, clinical paperwork, and other written work in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with, willing, and able to use computer technology.
  • Complies with all applicable regulatory rules and standards.
  • Attends all required development and orientation sessions during contracted work periods.


Required Qualifications:
  • Unencumbered/Unrestricted Nevada RN License.
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Evidence of clinical excellence and desire to teach at the college level.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with a diverse population of undergraduate students in a growing institution.
  • Team player who collaborates with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Competency in use of Electronic Health Records and educational technology.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in nursing or above with experience educating undergraduate nursing students.
  • Ability to teach clinical nursing skills, supervise students in clinical and lab settings, and evaluate student performance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning.
  • Evidence of scholarly potential and/or activity.
  • Experience in web-based coursework.
  • Incorporation of diversity into teaching.
  • Active in professional organizations related to nursing education.
