Information Systems Faculty - Cybersecurity/Networking

Hiring Range: Minimum starting salary: $43,776 - Commensurate with experience and corresponding rank in the VCCS.

Job Type: Full-Time (Salaried)

Job Description:

This position will teach Information Systems courses such as Internet and Network Foundation, Network Security Basics, Network Attacks, Computer Crime and Hacking, Network Communication, Security and Authentication, and Network Security Layers at 15 credits per semester as assigned at the Hampton or Historic Triangle campuses, and/or offsite locations; on-campus and online classes; day, evening and/or weekend classes.

Essential Functions:

  • Designs, develops and assesses curriculum.
  • Serves on departmental, college and program committees and as an academic advisor.
  • Serves in the role of a faculty mentor for students, and contributes to college governance.
  • Remains current in the academic discipline and in trends in teaching through professional development, further education, and/or scholarship.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively in a diverse educational environment.
  • Contributes high levels of energy, engagement, creativity and leadership to the teaching and learning environment.
  • Facilitates student learning through in-class and out-of-class activities.
  • Participates in graduation ceremonies.
  • Participates in meetings and events required by the college, division, and program administrators.
  • Collaborates in a diverse and collegial organizational culture with high standards for performance.
  • Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.
  • Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the college and its constituents.
  • Performs professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the college, division, and programs.
  • Contributes to program and division curriculum development processes.
  • Promotes the program and builds student recruitment.
  • Maintain current knowledge and practices from cybersecurity field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a directly related field from an accredited institution and moderate applied work experience in the fundamentals of cybersecurity.
  • Network+ or Cisco CCENT and Security+, or equivalent security-based industry certification.
  • Current knowledge of security technologies.
  • Information systems or network technologies teaching experience.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard) with ability to use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience.
  • Have a clear understanding of and commitment to serving the needs of traditional and non-traditional students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
  • Ability to modify when appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.
  • Ability to work at all campus locations.

Note: Network+ and Security+ or Cisco CCENT certifications will need to be maintained for employment. The successful candidate will need to obtain these certifications within the first year of employment if she/he does not have them by the date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Information Technology or directly related field.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience with adult education in a technical field.
  • Network+ or Cisco CCENT and Security+, or equivalent security-based industry certification.
  • Additional information technology certifications: CCNA R&S, CCNP R&S, CCNA Security, CEH, GIAC, or CISSP.
  • Teaching experience in online or hybrid, traditional face to face classroom, and flipped classroom modalities.

Special Requirements:

Hours of duty: Will vary, some evenings and weekends may be required.
