- Under general supervision teach college-level Biology, Ecology, Marine Biology, and other related science lecture and laboratory courses.
- Work collaboratively with STEM colleagues to identify, plan, develop, and implement curriculum and learning strategies to meet student, special population, college and community needs.
- Manage and mentor undergraduate research interns, student employees, and other personnel involved in extramural projects.
- Prepare, adapt, and revise Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and Assessment strategies, and develop appropriate assessment instruments for assigned courses.
- Prepare self-studies, data collection and analysis, and assessment reporting for external accreditation such as WASC.
- Prepare and coordinate academic advising documents for students and counselors. Develop and/or redesign curricula for online and other distance education applications as appropriate.
- Evening, weekend, television, distance education, and off campus (i.e. Moloka’i, Lana’i, and Hana) classes may be assigned as part of regular workload
- Master’s Degree in Biological Science, Ecology, or Marine Biology. All minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology with an emphasis in Ecology/Organismal Biology
- Teaching experience, preferably in a community college or university setting, in Biology, Environment and Ecology, Marine Biology, or other life science courses including labs
- Strong background (academic and/or professional experience) in applied life sciences
- Experience in developing laboratory curricula
- Knowledge of computers and their applications to science, teaching, and laboratory work
- Knowledge of the use of equipment and techniques related to life science laboratory courses
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and to communicate clearly
- Experience in mentoring or supervising student research
- Experience in working with people from various social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with diverse academic interests and abilities
- Experience in grant writing and grant execution
- Distance teaching experience including cable classes and internet classes.
